History of the CFA

  The California Football Association is among the largest minor league football organization in Southern California. The CFA provides skilled football players a forum to display and refine their skills as they make an attempt to reach a professional level of the sport. Made up of the some of the best teams and talent on the West Coast, the CFA has attracted the attention of several professional leagues and has successfully graduated several players to professional teams throughout the U.S.

Since its' beginning nine years ago, the CFA has amassed an amazing record of 96 Wins, 19 Losses and 2 Tie against non-league competition proving that the CFA is the most talented league in all of Southern California.

The California Football Association was established in 1999 by four long running estalished football programs. The Southern California Cardinals, San Bernardino Vipers, West Coast Sharks and Pomona Valley Dragons competed against eachother for a chance at the championship. In the first ever CFA Championship game, the Cardinals defeated the Sharks by a score of 7-6.

In 2000, the CFA grew from four to eight teams with the addition of the Orange County Makos, Covina Valley Impact, Los Angeles Inferno, and Los Angeles Monarchs. In the 2nd Annual CFA Championship game, the Cardinals successfully defended their crown with a 9-0 victory over the Dragons.

In 2001, the CFA once again experienced growth with the addition of the Inglewood Blackhawks, Southern California Bandits, San Diego Saints, Southern California Stallions, Bakersfield Panthers and the Corona Express. at the end of the 2000 season, the 2 time champion Cardinals ceased operations leaving the door wide open for a new Champion to be crowned. In a classic battle of offense versu defense, the Orange County Makos defeated the Inglewood Blackhawks 19-16 to become the new CFA Champions.

2002 was one of the most competitive seasons in CFA history and marked the return of the West Coast Sharks who had temporarily shut down for the 2001 season. In another classic battle of offense versus defense, the Sharks defeated the Blackhawks 25-15 to become the 2002 CFA Champions. 2002 also marked the first ever CFA All-Star game. The Dark team consisting of Dragons, Panthers, Saints and Gunslingers defeated the White team made up of players from the Sharks, Blackhawks, Makos, Raiders and Impact by a score of 17-8.

2003 was yet another competitive season in the CFA as 9 teams battled for supremacy. The Long Beach Lions and San Gabriel Valley Rhinos were the newest expansion teams to join the CFA. In keeping with the CFA tradition of making solid progress, the 5th Annual CFA Championship was held at historic Long Beach Veterans Stadium. Over 1,000 enthusiastic fans were treated to the most exciting championship game in CFA history. In their 3rd consecutive trip to the big dance, the Inglewood Blackhawks finally put it all together and captured the only title that has eluded them. In an overtime thriller, the Blackhawks defeated the Rhinos 26-20 to capture the most coveted championship in all of Southern California.
